My Major and Career Goals
My Major
I will be completing my Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology at IUPUI in the Spring of 2022. This degree provides me with a thorough understanding of the human body and prepares me to work in health-related professional fields. I have taken classes that have extensively covered human anatomy, human physiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, chemistry, physics, nutrition, and physical fitness assessment testing. I chose this degree among others because it stood out to me. After being in the military and always being required to be in shape for yearly testing, I decided I wanted to help others become fit and give them the knowledge to help them get to a better state of health in their lives. Ever since then, I have made it my mission to spread my exercise knowledge to those around me, and I can't wait to start a career and help others on a bigger scale. In the Summer of 2021, I plan on furthering my education by applying to Physical Therapy schools around the midwest to earn my Doctorate of Physical Therapy. I am very passionate about exercise and I have a personal connection to being in a state where I couldn't exercise or do much of anything. I want to help people get through that thing that is disabling them and to get them back to doing the things that they love doing. I have always felt like my purpose is to serve others and in one way or another, I will do just that.
Carmel Rehab Patient Care
My Career Goals/The Future
I will be starting my externship in the Spring of 2022 at a physical therapy rehabilitation clinic. I currently work at a rehabilitation clinic in Carmel, IN and I work primarily with geriatric patients. I provide care to patients by walking them through exercises, giving ultrasounds on areas with pain, prepping hot and cold packs, and prepping patients to see the physical therapist. I would like to get an externship working outside of this realm though to further my experience and knowledge of other procedures performed by physical therapists. I would love to work with athletes and children for my future externship. I think by broadening my experience I will have an easier time choosing a specialty in the future. I have applied to Riley Children's Hospital and to a couple of athletic physical therapy clinics around The Greater Indianapolis area. I have had an amazing experience so far helping people understand why they are at therapy and giving them peace of mind while they are going through the healing process.

Looking into the future, I will become a Doctor of Physical Therapy with a specialization in Cardiopulmonary fitness or a specialization working with Veterans with combat injuries coming back home from a deployment. I have found these specialties to be the most interesting and the most impactful in my opinion. Ultimately in the future, I want to be someone that people look to and have complete trust in to perform my job and provide the best care for themselves, their children, and for their friends and family.
